Invited by the Society of Physics Students and Ryerson Astronomy Society of the university, the Nobel Laureate and scientific advisor of Interstellar, Kip Thorne, gave a talk on October 21st.
Kip Thorne is clearly a nice, fun, wise man despite him making me envious for being the friend of Stephen Hawking and knowing Oppenheimer and Richard Feynman in person.
He insisted young people calling him Kip instead of Professor Thorne. He said he had a slow mind that back in Caltech in his college days, he would write up notebooks containing explanations of the physics taught in his own words; now he still have boxes of those notebooks in his home.
The most beautiful thing he said was this: He was a very young child, when his grandfather, also a academic scholar, said that his life will be successful if he finds a job like play.
Like play. I certainly believe Kip has had fun in his life and will continue to.
